Description
Jazz spans a range of music from ragtime to the present day - a period of over 100 years - and has proved to be very difficult to define. Attempts have been made to define jazz from the perspective of other musical traditions using the point of view of European music history or African music for example, but critic Joachim Berendt argues that its terms of reference and its definition should be broader. While jazz is considered difficult to define, improvisation is consistently regarded as being one of its key elements. The song "Jazzman" was a 1974 piece by Carole King from her album "Wrap Around Joy" which made it to #2 on the Billboard Top 100 Chart. The song is best known for its lengthy saxophone solos.
