Description
Red-bellied Woodpeckers are pale, medium-sized woodpeckers common in forests of the East. Their strikingly barred backs and gleaming red caps make them an unforgettable sight; just resist the temptation to call them Red-headed Woodpeckers, a somewhat rarer species that's mostly black on the back with big white wing patches. Learn the Red-bellied's rolling call and you will notice these birds everywhere.

Nice portrait. Background is beautiful too. Wonder why he's called red bellied.
Deena Stoddard replied:
Thank you, Mary, he is hiding the light red spot that is present on the lower belly in this shot.

Your strength is definitely shooting birds and your portrayal of them. Seems as though this is your favorite as well. Such great color and clarity Deena! :) Lf
